By joining the TSA, you will receive the TSA’s annual newsletter and will also be kept up to date on the latest in turtle conservation via e-mail alerts and the members-only area of the TSA website.
Members with husbandry experience may also be able to assist the TSA with the maintenance and care of turtles that are a part of a captive assurance colony. (All turtles are managed by the organization’s animal management committee and are placed on a case by case basis.) In addition, you will have the opportunity to network with some of the world’s leading turtle bioloigists either electronically or at our annual conference where members receive a discount on registration.
Regardless of your level of experience, we encourage you to join the TSA and take the opportunity to learn more about turtle conservation, while helping to make a difference.

Your participation, either as an individual, institution or organization, will support the following programs as well as others as needed.
- Myanmar - The TSA is hard at work in Myanmar for the Critically Endangered Burmese roofed turtle, once thought extinct but recently rediscovered. A small breeding nucleus was recently established at the Zoo in Mandalay and funds are desperately needed to expand their facilities.
- India - The TSA is developing a comprehensive conservation program for India’s freshwater turtles and tortoises, based at the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust (MCBT) in Chennai. This program will build on an infrastructure of existing facilities coupled with logistical support and knowledge of the MCBT staff.
- TSA Scholarship Program - These funds provide support for the TSA’s new training program that brings staff from our range country programs to the U.S. for a Summer internship. Students will receive intensive training in turtle field research techniques as well as a broad range of other experiences including captive husbandry, veterinary treatment and museum techniques.
- Madagascar - The TSA is supporting the recovery program for the world’s most critically endangered tortoise, the ploughshare of Angonoka, by providing assistance to the captive program at Amphijora and establishing monitoring camps to protect the few remaining wild populations against poachers.
