Captive Management and Reproduction of the Roti Island Turtle

The limited successes to date in captive reproduction of the critically endangered Roti Island turtle (Chelodina mccordi) will be presented. Information from Chapman University, Columbus Zoo and Toledo Zoo, which have successfully maintained and reproduced the Roti Island turtle, will be shared. Best practices from each institution with regard to diet, housing and related techniques for maintaining and breeding these little known Indonesian aquatic long necked turtles will be presented. In addition, techniques for successfully raising hatchlings and neonates in captivity will be noted.
